We contracted The Escalator Cleaning Co. to deep clean 46 escalators at one of our major customers. The job had to be completed quickly so the facility would shine for an important employee appreciation open house. Using the Rotomac, which cleans both the steps and risers at the same time, they were able to complete this job ahead of schedule. Their personnel were highly professional and courteous and did an excellent job of keeping everyone fully informed on a daily basis. The end result achieved by The Escalator Cleaning Co. using the Rotomac was comparable to a complete power washing, but faster, less expensive, and with no disruption in service. Both Schindler and our customer were extremely pleased; our expectations and those of our customer were exceeded.

Q&A with Randy Montoya, Colorado Convention Center

Q: How long have you had the machine?
A: We have had our machine about 2 years now.

Q: How long does it take to set up / break down and clean the machine?
A: Obviously we found that if we assign specific personnel to the machine i.e.; 1st 2nd & 3rd shift who have been trained and have experience using the machine they can set up, clean and teardown in about ½ hr. We found it works much better to have assigned personnel who know the machine and its operation.

Q: Did you have to purchase any additional equipment / accessories?
A: The only additional purchase made were the cleaners for the machine. One being “The Degreasalator” for the face plate”. Two being the “Degreaser” for the machine tank.

Q: How many employees do you assign to operate the machine?
A: Currently we use 2 employees to run the machine, one cleans the face plate and the other one runs the machine. We also like two employees being assigned to the machine for safety reasons.

Q: Have you had any maintenance issues or support from the company issues?
A: No maintenance issues as of yet. We broke a couple belts that raise and lower the legs but that was our fault, we rolled the machine to far forward and bent the bracket that held the belt in place. As far as support they have been great, they follow-up on the purchase and use. They respond timely, and have worked well with us.

Q: Would you recommend the machine?
A: Definitely we have tried all different types of cleaning solutions and machines to clean our escalators. None have worked until now, we have older escalators and newer ones. Our older ones showed a dramatic difference. The machine works…. We’re very happy with it performance so far. I know it’s quite a purchase $$$ but it has made the difference for us, Currently were running this machine everyday so far so good.

Even though your work commitments and schedules did not allow you to undertake another project especially being provided with such a short notice, and fortunately for IKEA, Mr. Ramos had a cancellation and was able to undertake this major task.  This project was absolutely critical due to an important visit from the President of IKEA on Aug.27.  Mr. Ramos and his crew went above and beyond to provide excellent cleaning services to both the escalators and on time with no interruption whatsoever to the store’s operation.

I would like to add that I am very pleased with the thoroughness and commitment of your company to the project and assure you that I am seeking to set up a maintenance program with you in the near future.  Again I thank you for a job well done.

In the fall of 2006, The Escalator Cleaning Company cleaned our escalators at the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport.  The particular set of escalators is located at one of our passenger boarding areas and is used on a daily basis. These escalators lead out to the tarmac therefore allowing passengers to track a lot of dirt and grime on the steps and risers. The escalator steps were not really cleaned thoroughly for 7 years and looking bad.  We contacted the Escalator Cleaning Company to clean the escalators and they did a tremendous job.  The steps and risers look brand new and they scheduled the work during down times and were very clean with the machinery they used.  We very pleased and will use them again for this service.
